National Mining Development Corporation of India restarts iron mine in Karnataka

The National Mining Development Corporation of India (NMDC) recently announced that after obtaining government permission, the company has begun to resume operations at the Donimalai iron mine in Karnataka.

Due to a dispute over contract renewal, the National Mining Development Corporation of India suspended the production of the Donimaralai iron ore mine in November 2018.
The National Mining Development Corporation of India recently stated in a document: “With the permission of the Karnataka State Government, the lease term of the Donimaralai iron ore mine has been extended for 20 years (effective from March 11, 2018), and the relevant statutory laws have been completed Upon request, the iron mine will restart on the morning of February 18, 2021.”

It is understood that the production capacity of the Donimaralai iron ore mine is 7 million tons per year, and the ore reserves are about 90 million to 100 million tons.

The National Mining Development Corporation of India, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Iron and Steel in India, is the largest iron ore producer in India. It currently operates three iron ore mines, two of which are located in Chhattisgarh and one is located in Karnataka.

In January 2021, the company’s iron ore output reached 3.86 million tons, an increase of 16.7% from 3.31 million tons in the same period last year; iron ore sales reached 3.74 million tons, an increase of 26.4% from 2.96 million tons in the same period last year. (China Coal Resources Net)
